Hi my zoulous and welcome to this new article.
In this article we are going to talk about a cheap and very interesting shield infantry unit, mainly used to stall and buy time. I present to you the Demesne spearmen !
Obtaining Demesne spearmen
Let’s start with how to obtain them.
The Demesne spearmen can be unlocked through the unit tree in Heraldic Units. Of course, to unlock the Demesne spearmen you will need to unlock the previous nodes first.
Once the Demesne spearmen are acquired, there are several points to go over.
Veterancies Demesne spearmen
Let’s talk about veterancies
The Demesne spearmen have 2 veterancy paths.
The top path mainly increases various non-essential defensive statistics, while the bottom path focuses more on minimum damage and a bit of defensive power.
Doctrines Demesne spearmen
Regarding doctrines
I recommend starting with the Noble Blood doctrine, which increases your unit’s damage and movement speed.
You can then follow up with Unyielding, which allows the unit to last longer, and finally stack doctrines focused on damage reduction and increased block.
Masteries Demesne spearmen
Let’s move on to masteries

The Demesne spearmen also have an important mastery that globally increases their stats, but more importantly boosts the unit’s damage through the “Push Back” and “Heavy Blows” points, especially via the Pure Attack skill.
And that concludes the customization of the Domain Lancers, let’s now move on to their usage.
Despite their tier, Domain Lancers have the advantage of being numerous, with 40 models in the unit.
Additionally, they have a low influence cost, decent tankiness, and thanks to masteries they are capable of dealing fairly high damage.
And that wraps up the customization of the Demesne spearmen, let’s now move on to their usage.
Role of Demesne spearmen
The first possible use is to X-move them into the fight and press skill 1 to activate their defensive boost and additional damage.
In this state, which lasts around 6 seconds, Domain Lancers are able to significantly stall higher-tier units.
Be careful: Domain Lancers will lose against most higher-tier units. Their purpose is not to win duels, but when accompanied by a DPS unit, they allow that unit to deal a large amount of damage while providing fairly solid protection for their cost. This makes them more of a late-game unit.
You can also, if you have the doctrine, activate Unyielding to prevent your unit from being crowd-controlled and therefore taking additional damage.
The second use is wall climbing. Thanks to their durability and low cost, Domain Lancers can be used to climb walls, forcing the enemy to deal with the push, which can potentially allow your allies to break through elsewhere.
That said, they are not the most suitable unit for this role. Viper Pikes or Rondache Infantry are generally preferred, but they are still capable of doing it.
Formations Demesne spearmen
Let’s move on to formations. The Demesne spearmen have 2 formations. The shield wall formation. The unit will line up in two rows. Given their numbers, this formation can be interesting for slowing down enemy flanks. It can also be useful to block enemy advances over a wide area.
Next is the turtle formation, which is potentially more interesting to use in tighter spaces to concentrate blocking and the Domain Lancers’ damage.
