Hi my zoulous and welcome to this new article.
In this video we are going to talk about a very strong unit with a low influence cost. I present to you the Halberdiers T3!
How to obtain Halberdiers
Let’s start with how to obtain them.
The Halberdiers are accessible through the unit tree by pressing U, then unit tree, then infantry. Of course, you will need to unlock the previous units before being able to unlock the Halberdiers.
Once the Halberdiers are unlocked, several points are worth discussing.
Halberdiers veterancy
Let’s talk about veterancy.
The Halberdiers have two veterancy lines.
The top line focuses on charge and damage against infantry, while the bottom line focuses more on bracing and cavalry.
Since the Halberdiers are very often used while braced, we will prefer the bottom line, especially for the 15% bonus damage while braced and the various associated bonuses.
Halberdiers doctrines
Regarding doctrines,
The Halberdiers are mainly here to deal DPS while being supported by a frontline.
We will therefore focus on damage doctrines against infantry, although a few anti-cavalry doctrines can be useful, especially to stop cavalry units such as Yanyuedao.
You can go for the doctrine that staggers enemies while the unit is braced.
You can then add damage-to-hero and/or damage-to-units doctrines. On top of that, you can also add a polearm weapon doctrine for flat stats and finally a few anti-cavalry doctrines.
Halberdiers masteries
Let’s move on to masteries.

In addition to the statistics provided by masteries (extra health and damage), masteries are especially interesting for the passive skill “Coordinated”, which allows an additional 30% DPS on the 5th hit.
We also have the skill “Attrition”, which allows the Halberdiers to heal for 500 health points. Not amazing, but still nice to have.
By the way, if you want to know how to obtain or how masteries work, I redirect you to the
tutorial on the subject.
And that’s it for customizing the Halberdiers, let’s now move on to how to use them.
Role of the Halberdiers
A quick definition of the role of the Halberdiers: the unit acts as DPS support for other units, allowing them to break blocks and deal heavy damage to enemy units and heroes.
They should move in groups to be as effective as possible.
In some situations they can serve as secondary anti-cavalry, but aside from Yanyuedao cavalry they are not able to stop a full T5 cavalry unit on their own.
Halberdiers formations
Let’s now take a closer look at formations.
First formation: dispersed formation or F1.
This formation is not very useful because the goal of the Halberdiers is to deal heavy damage to a precise point. The dispersed formation is therefore counterproductive for this purpose. However, F1 does have one advantage: it allows you to brace exactly where your Halberdiers are currently located. In emergency situations where you don’t have time to switch to F2, it can be useful to switch to F1 and brace immediately.
Second formation: phalanx formation or F2.
Here your Halberdiers will be grouped into a small square and will be able to deal heavy damage once braced. This is the formation you should use in most cases. Be careful though: as mentioned for F1, Halberdiers in F2 only brace once they reach the position you indicated, which can sometimes be problematic in a fight if you didn’t anticipate enemy movement well enough.
Halberdiers skills
In addition to formations, the Halberdiers also have several skills.
First skill: charge.
As the name suggests, charge allows the Halberdiers to run toward the location you indicated. It can be useful to kill isolated heroes or to quickly enter or exit combat depending on the situation.
Be careful: unlike the Halberdiers provosts, the Halberdiers do not automatically brace after charging. You will have to do it manually.
Second skill: bracing.
Bracing allows the unit to deal more damage to cavalry as well as to infantry that charge into them. In short, you should always be braced when engaging in combat.
Halberdiers tips
Let’s now move on to a few tips.
First tip: tight spaces.
The more restricted your opponents’ movement is, the more effective the Halberdiers become. Try as much as possible to brace in areas with limited space, allowing your Halberdiers to focus on a single point and eliminate enemies much faster.
Second tip: staircases.
Try as much as possible to take fights either at the top or the bottom of stairs, as you will have the advantage over enemies coming out of them.
Even though the Halberdiers are not bad inside staircases, try to avoid this type of fight as much as possible.
