Hi my zoulous and welcome to this new article.
In this video we are going to talk about a very interesting stud cavalry unit. I’m talking about the Outriders!
Obtaining Outriders
Let’s start with how to obtain them.
The Outriders are obtained through the seasonal system in Season 9: Tyranny. To do so, you will of course need to complete the quests associated with the unit. The unit is accessible by pressing F5 and then Seasonal Challenges.
Once the Outriders are unlocked, there are several points to cover.
Veterancy Outriders
Let’s talk about veterancy.
The Outriders have 2 veterancy paths.
The top line, where we find several defensive and damage stat improvements for the unit, and the bottom line, which mainly increases damage, ammunition, range, and allows you to debuff the enemy blob.
Doctrines Outriders
Regarding doctrines
- You can add the Damage Doctrine 5 and the Attack Doctrine 5 for javelins, which increase both damage dealt and ammunition.
- The unit doctrine that reduces javelin reload time is also interesting.
- On top of that, you can equip the immobility doctrine to add a bit more crowd control, as well as some extra damage with Damage to Units 5.
Masteries Outriders
Let’s move on to masteries.

The Outriders also have an important mastery that globally increases your stats, but most importantly boosts your charge speed and adds extra damage. On top of that, the final point unlocks a mechanic that triggers when you press X or V, dealing 200% additional damage or causing a guard break if the attack is blocked.
That concludes the customization of the Outriders. Let’s now move on to how to use them.
Role of the Outriders
By nature, the rider is a guerrilla unit, meaning you should throw your javelins into the enemy blob and, if they advance toward you, fall back to always stay out of infantry range. This is essentially a hit-and-run playstyle. The unit is fairly fast, making this gameplay possible.
However, it is quite weak in terms of durability, and it is very likely that if something hits you, the unit will die quickly.
In practice, you position yourself within range of an enemy blob, use skill 1, then throw basic attacks. If enemy units move toward you, you retreat. If they fall back, you advance. As for skill 2, “Like the Wind”, it allows you to fire a volley of javelins, after which your cavalry will charge.
This skill can be useful to finish off an isolated or routing unit, but be careful: the unit is fragile, and a frontal charge can quickly lead to its destruction. This skill also allows you to recover ammunition, so it can be used if your unit is running low on javelins.
Formations Outriders
Let’s move on to formations. The Outriders have 2 formations.First, the dispersed formation, which in this case is not really dispersed and allows for fairly concentrated fire on a specific point.
Then we have the V formation, which is more spread out and forces enemy units advancing toward you to focus on one side of the formation or the other. This can make things a bit safer when under attack. However, it also makes handling the riders more difficult in tight or enclosed areas.
This is already the end of this article. I hope you enjoyed it. Don’t forget to leave a thumbs up if you liked it, and subscribe if you want to follow the channel!
