Hi my zoulous and welcome to this new video on Conqueror's Blade.
In this video, we are going to talk about recommended units to get started on solid foundations, then we will go over common mistakes to avoid, and finally we will cover veterancy and doctrines for units.
First of all, if you are a new player on Conqueror's Blade, you can enter the code found in the description to obtain 7 days of premium, which will help speed up your progression.
Recommended units to get started
Your first objective is to obtain a unit that is useful in sieges and capable of getting kills in bandit raids. I initially recommend the blue halberdiers, which have solid damage, a relatively low influence cost, and anti-cavalry capabilities.
More concretely, blue halberdiers are played using the F2 formation with brace. Simply place them in front of an enemy unit block, wait for them to clear it, and then move forward once it’s done. This unit is not the best for bandit raids, but it is interesting due to its versatility in your future unit composition.
Once you have obtained the halberdier unit, I recommend unlocking the Reapers, which are a heavy shock infantry very useful for engaging fights. This unit is also located in the unit tree, accessible by pressing U, then Unit Tree.
In parallel, once the seasonal system is unlocked, I recommend focusing on Season 20 – Alexander – in order to obtain the Phalanxes, which are a very strong anti-cavalry unit, as well as the Companions, a useful light cavalry unit.
At this stage, you will have one strong anti-cavalry unit, one cavalry unit, one shock infantry unit, and one versatile unit.
An important thing to do is to level your units one by one. That means all the free XP you have available should be invested into a single unit in order to optimize it. Above all, avoid spreading your free XP across multiple units.
Once you have unlocked the Phalanxes and the Companions, you can continue with Season 22 – Glory of Sparta – and level up the Spartans, which are an excellent frontline unit primarily serving as a shield unit, but not only that.
With these few units leveled, you will be able to handle most situations.
For the rest, I will recommend other seasons, but you can of course choose according to your preferences.
Season 5 – Legacy of Fire: In this season, you will find the Symmachean Faithful, a very useful shield unit with anti-cavalry capabilities; the Symmachean Paladins, a melee infantry unit that is currently average but can still be useful; and two so-called exotic units due to their specific gameplay: the Zyklian Militia and the Siphonarioi.
Season 19 – Dragonrise: You will find the Wuwei, a light-armor DPS infantry capable of dealing massive damage when used correctly.
Season 18 – Avalon: The Queen’s Knights, a relatively tanky DPS infantry with very good damage when well played; they are also a counter to Reapers.
Season 16 – Orochi Samurai: Another interesting DPS unit with additional anti-cavalry capabilities, especially on their first skill.
Season 15 – Yanyuedao: A cavalry unit capable of dealing very high damage, which does not rely on straight-line charges but can turn while its skill is charging.
Season 14 – Camels: An interesting anti-cavalry unit, more mobile than foot infantry and especially capable of inflicting fear on nearby cavalry, completely immobilizing them.
Regarding the unit tree, in addition to what I have already suggested, you also have:
- Winged Hussars: A charge cavalry unit capable of dealing heavy damage but relatively fragile.
- Yeomen: Another charge cavalry unit, but less expensive in terms of influence.
- Espontons: Charge cavalry with follow-commander behavior, allowing better adaptability, especially in cities.
- Imperial Pike Guards: Another interesting shield unit if you do not have the Spartans.
Optimizing your units
Alright, now you have a roadmap to get started properly on Conqueror’s Blade, but you may not know which veterancy or doctrines are the most optimal for your units. No worries: on the denetax.fr website, in the unit optimization section, you will find all this information to be as efficient as possible in your games.
Now let’s go over the mistakes to avoid, as they can significantly slow down your progression.
1 – The first common mistake made by new players is having a unit build mainly focused on archers, arquebusiers, and ranged units in general.
In your first games, these units can be very effective, but the issue is that you are playing against new players and bots, which does not reflect the reality of standard matches once you level up.
There are several problems with this type of composition. If you go full archers, you won’t be able to effectively support your allies during pushes, and the opposing team may bring out cavalry and wipe out all your archers without you being able to do much about it.
Personally, I don’t use archers at all in my compositions, but I know they can be useful in certain situations. I therefore recommend not exceeding one ranged unit in your unit build.
2 – Second common mistake: unlocking and leveling all units at the same time.
At the beginning of Conqueror’s Blade, you discover and unlock many units, and free XP often gets redistributed automatically through interface notifications. Don’t do that. Choose one unit to fully level, then move on to the next once it’s maxed out.
An important mechanic to know: at the end of battles, you gain battle XP which is divided by the number of units that are not max level. This is why it is optimal to play with all max-level units plus one unit being leveled, in order to optimize overall progression.
3 – Third point: ignoring the various Conqueror’s Blade interfaces.
When you start Conqueror’s Blade, many interfaces appear as you progress. Even if it can feel overwhelming, try to check them all to optimize your progression. For example, the Supply Token interface accessible via O > Event and Token Exchange allows you to earn many important items, such as plans and materials to craft mastery scrolls, wisdom for doctrines, and more.
4 – Fourth point: unlocking unit nodes too early.
When you unlock the unit tree interface, you will find two elements: units and unit nodes. Unit slots allow you to unlock units, while unit nodes improve either a specific unit or a group of units (for example, all shielded infantry).
At first, unless a node is required to unlock a specific unit mentioned earlier, I recommend saving your honor and not unlocking additional nodes. Instead, focus your honor on unlocking units to complete your build as quickly as possible. After that, you can acquire mastery plans to unlock unit masteries, and only then unlock passive nodes for the units you actually use.
Tips
Let’s move on to a few tips that can help you.
First tip: join the Cohort or a House.
Beyond the community aspect, which is very important in this type of game, joining a House or the Cohort grants access to shared units. These shared units are usually max level and fully doctrined, allowing you to win games more easily and therefore progress faster.
The interface becomes available at level 14 by pressing N.
Second tip: at level 25, you unlock the seasonal shop. You should normally have enough currency to buy unit XP cards that increase unit XP gained by 50%.
This represents 50 battles, which is far from negligible for your progression. You can also obtain other crafting items, but early on, your hero’s gear is less important.
Third tip: take advantage of the early game to test different available classes. Once you have chosen your class or possibly your two favorite classes, start optimizing your gear. To begin with, I recommend heavy armor classes, as they are more forgiving of small mistakes, but you can absolutely start with medium or even light armor—it will just be harder to master.
