Hi my zoulous and welcome to this new video.
In this article, we are going to talk about the ultimate anti-cavalry unit! I present to you the Fortebraccio.

Obtaining the Fortebraccio

Let’s start with how to obtain them.
The Fortebraccio are Season 3 units.
To unlock them, you will need to select this season and complete the associated challenges, or directly purchase them with Sovereigns.

Once the Fortebraccio are acquired, several points need to be discussed.

Fortebraccio Veterancy

Let’s talk about veterancy. To be more effective at their anti-cavalry role, the Fortebraccio should be specialized on the top line, especially for the final node which allows them to hit one additional target per attack, as well as the various bonuses when they are braced.

Fortebraccio Doctrines

Regarding doctrines, I recommend equipping the doctrine that allows enemies to be stunned when the unit is braced. Personally, I also added a 35% damage reduction from cavalry as well as an increase in damage dealt to cavalry.
On top of that, a 30% damage reduction while the unit is braced and, if possible, the bracing doctrine that inflicts a bleed effect on cavalry based on their maximum health.

Using the Fortebraccio

That’s it for Fortebraccio customization, let’s now move on to how to use them.

The main role of the Fortebraccio is to stop cavalry charges, so the player using them must maintain constant awareness of the battlefield to spot threats coming from the front, sides, or even from behind. To accomplish this mission, the Fortebraccio have several tools.

Fortebraccio Formations

Let’s start with formations.

The first formation, often referred to as F1, is a dispersed formation that allows you to cover more ground.
This is the default formation that should be used with this unit, as it makes it difficult for enemy heroes to control the entire unit.

The second formation is F2. In this formation, the Fortebraccio position themselves in two lines. This formation is generally not well suited and I do not recommend using it.

The third formation is F3. This very tight formation allows damage to be concentrated on a single point. It is very effective in narrow areas, but since all Fortebraccio are almost in the same spot, it becomes possible for certain classes to control the entire unit, which is a major weakness. Use it sparingly.

In addition to formations, the Fortebraccio also have a bracing skill that allows them to deal more damage when enemy units charge.

Fortebraccio Subtleties

A small but important detail: in F1 formation, the Fortebraccio do not automatically brace. You must activate it manually using skill 1.

In F2 and F3 formations, bracing activates automatically once the unit reaches the designated position.

You can also brace while moving by simply activating skill 1 during movement. Be careful with positioning in this case, as the Fortebraccio will brace exactly where they are, which can result in inefficient formations.

Another important indicator: if you are not near your Fortebraccio, when skill 1 is highlighted it means they are braced; otherwise, they are not.

A unique trait of the Fortebraccio is that the unit will turn toward the nearest enemy to attack them. Be aware that experienced players can exploit this mechanic to divert the Fortebraccio’s focus and allow cavalry to slip through more easily. Try to protect your Fortebraccio from this with your hero.

A small tip: if a hero rushes your Fortebraccio and stands right in the middle, it can be effective to simply press V to trigger basic attacks and instantly kill the hero.

Try to avoid fighting on stairs or slopes, as the Fortebraccio are much less effective in this type of terrain.

Additional information: the Fortebraccio cannot climb ladders and cannot push siege towers or battering rams.

Also remember to use double C to make your Fortebraccio move faster, as they are a rather slow unit and repositioning is sometimes necessary. This is already the end of this article.
