Hey my zoulous and welcome to this new video on Throne and Liberty.
In this video, we are going to talk about traits, an extremely important concept for increasing your gear power.
What is a trait?
First of all, what is a trait?
A trait is a stat bonus present on certain items. When you obtain an item, one trait is randomly selected from the item’s trait list. To view this list, you can for example click on the item and then open the trait list.
This trait can later be modified through different methods that we will cover in this tutorial.
Trait modification
Random trait conversion
First, you can use a number of trait conversion stones (depending on the item) to try to obtain a more interesting trait for your item. The percentage chances for each trait are displayed on the right side of your screen.
To access this interface, you can by default press the ‘:’ key or F11, then go to equipment enchantment. Then select your item and click on trait conversion.
Trait conversion stones can notably be obtained through:
- The guild merchant in exchange for 30 guild coins for 1 stone, with a weekly limit of 100 trait conversion stones.
- Mystic portals found throughout the map if you possess Mystic Keys.
- The paid battle pass.
- Weekly quests in the arena section.
- Secret dungeons, in the Infinity Gate (elimination rewards under 5 and 3 minutes).
- The battle pass shop.
Trait selection
Second method to change a trait: trait selection. This allows you to choose a specific trait for your item in exchange for Trait Unlock Stones as well as Trait Conversion Stones.
The cost depends on the type of item you want to modify. Be careful—try to use this method only on very important items, as it is extremely expensive in resources.
As for Trait Unlock Stones, they can be obtained through:
- Weekly quests: the more weekly quests you complete, the more Trait Unlock Stones you can obtain if you choose this reward.
- The free and paid battle pass.
- Mystic portals, once again.
- Farming events if you obtain the bonus reward.
- The lithograph album.
- Fishing, in very small quantities.
Trait unlocking
So far, we have talked about modifying an existing trait. Now let’s talk about unlocking a trait.
There are several methods to unlock a trait on an item.
Using the same item
The first method is to obtain the same item with a different trait. Once you have the item, go to the enchantment interface, then traits. Select the item on which you want to unlock a trait, then select the item to be used. Of course, the consumed item will be destroyed during the process.
You then simply click on unlock trait, and the new trait will become available on your item.
Using Trait Unlock Stones
The second method uses Trait Unlock Stones and allows you to choose which trait to unlock. The number of stones consumed depends on the item type. I recommend using this method only for high-value items that are difficult to obtain.
Selling a trait
Now let’s talk about selling a trait.
To sell a trait, it’s very simple. First, you must extract the trait. To do this, left-click on the item and go to the trait extraction tab. This operation requires Trait Extraction Stones. Once done, you can sell the extracted trait on the auction house.
Trait Extraction Stones can be obtained through:
- The contract token merchant, with a weekly limit of 420 stones.
- The shop, in exchange for Ornate Coins.
- Mystic portals.
- The battle pass shop.
- Weekly missions.
- Secret dungeons, in the Infinity Gate tab for a completion under 3 minutes.
- Certain codex entries, especially those from level 50 cooperation dungeons.
- And finally, from the guild chest.
Upgrading a trait
Alright, now we know how to modify an existing trait, how to add one, and how to sell traits—but something is still missing.
That missing part is upgrading a trait. Indeed, traits have different levels on items, and the number of levels increases with the rarity of the item.
To upgrade a trait, it’s very simple: you need another item or an extracted trait from an item of the same type that has the same trait.
For example, I can upgrade a trait on my weapon using any other weapon as long as both weapons have the same trait. However, I cannot upgrade this weapon using an armor piece, for example.
Additionally, the rarity of the item used affects the success chance of the trait upgrade.
*Rixmome* What? I didn’t understand anything.
Alright, let me explain.
If I try to upgrade the trait of my purple weapon using a green weapon with the same trait, I will have a 1% success chance. If I use a blue weapon, I will have a 10% chance. And if I use a purple weapon, the trait upgrade will be guaranteed.
Additionally, in case of a failed upgrade, a blessing will be applied to my weapon. I can choose to consume this blessing on my next attempt to increase the success chance.
You can also wait and trigger this blessing only when the percentage reaches 100%, ensuring a guaranteed trait upgrade to the next level.
An important thing to note is that the blessing is tied to the item, not to a specific trait on the item.
This means you can build up blessing on an item using a cheap trait, then use that same blessing on a more expensive trait to optimize your progression.
A question you might have: what happens if I transfer an item with upgraded traits onto a new item? Well, you will lose all the traits on the original item, but you will gain blessing on the new item, which will allow you to upgrade a few traits. Be careful—make sure you are confident in this operation, as it always involves some loss.
