Hi my zoulous and welcome to this new video on Conqueror’s Blade.
In this video, we are going to talk about a unit that is surprising considering its tier and cost. I’m talking about the Rattan pikemen!
Obtaining Rattan pikemen
Let’s start with how to obtain them.
The Rattan pikemen are accessible through the unit tree by pressing U, then unit tree, then rattan units. Of course, you will need to unlock the previous nodes before the Rattan pikemen to access them.
Once the Rattan pikemen are acquired, several points are worth discussing.
Veterancy Rattan pikemen
Let’s talk about veterancy.
The Rattan pikemen have 2 veterancy paths.
In practice, only the final node cannot be reached on both paths.
On the top path, we get a 4% increase in piercing damage; on the bottom path, we gain the ability to stack poison up to 3 times.
There’s no real debate here: we go for the bottom path, which plays into the core identity of this unit.
Doctrines Rattan pikemen
Regarding doctrines
The Rattan pikemen are designed to stall and weaken enemies as much as possible thanks to their numbers and poison, but be careful: their damage can be surprisingly high in some situations.
We therefore continue to specialize them with Poison Doctrine V as well as Polearm Charge III so that they can apply their poison stacks quickly.
For the other doctrines, you can find a link to the recommended doctrines for this unit
here.
Masteries Rattan pikemen
Let’s move on to masteries.

The Rattan pikemen have very important masteries.
Aside from the resistance and health bonuses, we have the “Poisoned Rattan” node, which is extremely interesting as it slows down and reduces the damage dealt by heroes and troops.
Additionally, the “Indirect Methods” node further increases this effect, to the point where some heroes affected by it will barely be able to move or deal damage at all.
If you want to learn more about how to unlock or how masteries work, I recommend checking out the
tutorial on the subject.
That concludes the customization of the Rattan pikemen. Let’s now move on to how to use them.
Role of the Rattan pikemen
Here’s a quick definition of the job of the Rattan pikemen: as mentioned earlier, the Rattan pikemen have the ability to slow down enemies and reduce the damage they deal.
They are therefore useful for slowing down an enemy push or debuffing enemies so that other units can act while taking less damage.
However, with the right doctrines and masteries, they can surprisingly threaten higher-tier units in certain situations.
Formations Rattan pikemen
Let’s now go into more detail about formations.
The Rattan pikemen only have one formation: the dispersed formation, or F1.
In terms of positioning, it is very effective to place them in narrow areas to slow the enemy team as much as possible.
Be careful though: while pikemen can slow down an infantry push, they will not stop charging cavalry, so you must remain vigilant.
